Driver recruitment FAQs
Do I need to sign up with all the different companies in the YLC family?
No. When you join the Alton 8’s team, you’ll automatically be offered pre-booked rides from all the YLC group family in your drivers’ app. So you can earn more for more journeys, more often, at times that suit you
Do you offer flexible working hours?
Yes. We offer all our drivers flexible, well-paying driving jobs across our part of East Hampshire, whether they want to work for a few hours or all night. All journeys are booked and allocated by our state-of-the-art taxi tracking and dispatch system. You decide when you want to work, and then pick from a whole range of pre-booked jobs ready to go, including lucrative airport transfers.
How does the customer pay and how do I get paid?
The customer can pay either by card or Apple Pay on a hand-help contactless unit we’ll provide you with. They can also pay via the app, or in cash (although that is very rare these days). All customer electronic payments go direct to Your Local Car.
As a driver, you get paid a pre-agreed rate/percentage for each job. Our system keeps an accurate and full records of all your fares, ensuring transparent rates of pay and billing breakdown for you. Our drivers get paid weekly.
Are there any higher value jobs available like airport transfers?
Absolutely! Our customers come to us time after time for comfortable, hassle-free taxi airport transfers to Heathrow, Gatwick, City and Southampton airports. We also take many cruise holidaymakers to and from Southampton Cruise Terminals, as they like to make the most of no flight baggage weight limits!
Can you help me obtain a Private Vehicle Hire licence?
Yes we can. We offer both driver training and PVH Licence application support. Ask us for full details at your interview! We also welcome drivers who already hold hackney carriage and/or local area PVH licences.
As a driver, can I use one of your electric vehicles instead of my own?
Yes you can. All our drivers enjoy access to our 18+ electric vehicle pool including VW SUVs, Mercedes and BMW EVs. We know that by driving our all-electric fleet, you’ll get first-hand experience of driving electric in real life working and on roads you know well. Hopefully, next time you replace your current vehicle, you’ll choose a new EV as a result! However, with over 100+ drivers and just 18 electric vehicles, you may not get an electric pool car for every time.
